Prospects for GSM termination in the Dominican Republic

corporate

The Dominican Republic has a fairly large population of almost 11 million people. There is always a lot of international traffic, as tourism is one of the basic sectors of the local economy. Also, people are immigrating to the country from Haiti, while emigration level is also high. Given an average rate of $0.07 per minute and the low rates for local mobile communications, you can make good money on call termination in the Dominican Republic.

The fixed telephone sector in the Dominican Republic is poorly developed, with rates far below the average for Latin America. However, thanks to this, mobile services become preferable for the public when choosing a voice platform. Today, mobile penetration has reached 78%, which is 8.53 million connections. Recently, the government has been taking active steps to address access problems by expanding the coverage in rural and underserved areas.

Currently, there are four mobile operators in Dominican Republic:

  • Claro.
  • Altice.
  • Viva.
  • Wind Telecom.

Claro owns 55% of subscribers in the market, Altice - 41%, Viva - 4%. Wind Telecom provides services only in 4G networks. The market leader Claro has the best coverage.

In accordance with the new law, all prepaid mobile numbers must be registered, for this you need to present your passport. You can also buy an unregistered card in the street, but it may well be blocked after some time. Therefore, it is better to agree with someone who can regularly sell you a large number of registered SIM cards. The price of one starting plan in a store is, on average, $3.

An average price of an outgoing call in the country is $0.12 per minute. However, there are profitable package deals, within which you can call at prices up to $0.01 per minute. The Dominican Republic does not occupy the highest position in the mobile voip rates list; you can earn $300 and more from a channel there.
